Hazelett selected as supplier for massive JW Aluminum expansion | Vermont Business Magazine

by Timothy McQuiston Vermont Business Magazine Colchester-based Hazelett Corporation confirmed Monday that the Hazelett Twin-belt Continuous Casting Process will be utilized for the JW Aluminum expansion. The state-of-the-art Hazelett product is a centerpiece of the new 220,000-square-foot JW building, ultimately resulting in 175 million pounds of new capacity. Online trade publication alcircle.com said JW is investing $255 million in the South Carolina plant.

Hazelett Marketing Director Keith Decker told VBM that: "We are making the machine here in Colchester and it will be shipped to JW Aluminum’s plant in Mount Holly, SC around this time next year. There will be a few jobs added at Hazelett." Terms of the deal were not revealed.

“This new facility will be a model for the most cost-effective and energy efficient sheet production in North America,” said David Hazelett, president of Hazelett Corp. “And, it will significantly ease the projected shortage of aluminum coil in the United States.”

The Hazelett Model AS2000 casting machine being supplied is capable of producing 2000 mm wide strip at approximately 50 metric tonnes per hour. Alloy capabilities include 1XXX, 3XXX, 5XXX, and 6XXX series.
